Le Son des

COLLINES

Le Son Des Collines originated as a technical acoustic absorber panel concept developed at BioMat Studio, University of Stuttgart. The design explores sculptural thermoformed geometries to enhance sound absorption while using bio-based materials. It is now being further refined by BioMat GmbH for scalable production and tailored interior applications.

The panel is constructed as a sandwich system, with an exterior skin of alternating concave and convex thermoformed surfaces featuring slot openings. The core consists of natural fibre fleece, providing effective sound absorption across a wide range of frequencies.

The geometric forms are achieved through vacuum-assisted thermoforming of natural fibre reinforced thermoplastic biocomposite panels, followed by precision CNC milling to create the slot openings. Panels are extruded using single or double screw extruders.

Sustainability & Aesthetics

  • Fully recyclable or industrially compostable if recycling is not feasible.

  • Available in natural pale brown (fibre’s original colour) or custom pigmented finishes according to user preference.

Potential Applications

  • Wall cladding systems in offices, cultural spaces, and hospitality interiors.

  • False ceilings for integrated sound control.

  • Free-standing acoustic partitions for flexible interior layouts.

With its flowing, undulating geometry and bio-based construction, Le Son Des Collines merges acoustic performance, material sustainability, and architectural expression, offering a renewable alternative to conventional acoustic panels.
