PLANT CULTURE
Originally developed within a design–material collaboration at BioMat Studio, University of Stuttgart, and now further advanced by BioMat GmbH, this product showcases the design potential of bio-based thermoplastics in architectural and interior contexts.
The panel is composed of lignin–cellulose based thermoplastic and has been successfully thermoformed into a custom geometry created by architects at the University of Stuttgart. This design approach is fully adaptable — similar results can be achieved using various natural fibre reinforced thermoplastic formulations, provided thermoforming parameters such as temperature and forming time are adjusted according to the polymer and fibre type.
Applications
Interior cladding systems
Space dividers and partitions
Furniture and exhibition elements
Sustainability & Health
Fully recyclable and biodegradable
No VOC emissions for healthier indoor environments
By combining renewable raw materials with precision thermoforming, this panel offers architects and designers a sustainable, form-flexible solution for high-quality interior applications.
