POLYCALM

Originating from a design–material innovation at BioMat Studio, University of Stuttgart, and now further developed by BioMat GmbH, Polycalm is an advanced acoustic sound-absorber sandwich panel engineered for both performance and aesthetic versatility.

The panel’s upper face comprises two folded layers of a newly developed natural fibre reinforced biocomposite. These complex folded geometries are formed via vacuum-assisted thermoforming, followed by high-precision 3D CNC milling to create strategically positioned openings. These perforations guide sound waves into the voids between the folded layers, enhancing sound energy dissipation.

The opposite face of the panel features a solid biocomposite skin of the same base material, while the core is a natural fibre non-woven fleece, providing additional acoustic and thermal performance. By merging innovative form, bio-based materials, and precision fabrication, Polycalm delivers a sustainable and visually striking solution for modern acoustic design.
