This renovation breathes new life into a 1965 building, blending its historic character with sustainable innovation. Using reclaimed materials and modern techniques, the project transforms an aging structure into a contemporary space while maintaining its essence.
Functional Renovation - What Was Hidden Behind the Walls
This was not only a design project — it was also a deeply technical one. Built in the 1960s, the house still relied on an oil heating system, which had to be replaced to comply with Baden-Württemberg's Erneuerbare-Wärme-Gesetz (EWärmeG). Switching to a renewable heating system required proof of the building envelope's performance under §20 EWärmeG — so a full thermal envelope was applied to the roof structure, including the ceiling beams, to meet that standard.
Opening up the roof ceiling revealed the real condition of the building: an aging, partly damaged support beam and worn insulation that had never been replaced. In the basement, a hidden leak in the old piping had caused water damage, requiring the piping to be located, replaced, and the ceiling rebuilt.

Throughout the project, we maintained a dialogue between old and new — preserving elements of the home's original identity while upgrading its infrastructure, finishes, and overall usability. The result is a renewed residence that feels deeply grounded yet ready for the future.
